Athletes are role models...right?

Today, the typical athlete just cannot just play a game and go home and rest. Now the end of the game is just the beginning. When a game ends an athlete now has to update his facebook, twitter, myspace, and other networking sites so that fans can know what that athlete is thinking about after the game. If the athlete does not post anything then that athlete maybe considered has a jerk.

When an athlete uses these networking sites it will definitely benefit their image because it seems that he/she is wanting to connect with his/her fans. This definitely will expand their image because if an athlete because a fan favorite then he/she will definitely get the spotlight more then other athletes and fans will want the camera on their "favorite" player. This is influencing many athletes today to start their own websites so that their image is for the better. The more people the better chances of an athlete getting an endorsement. Endorsements help athletes get more money basically. Endorsements are ads for athletes to sponsor for and make money.

Now if an athlete does something terrible and that is not respected in today's society then the media jumps right on that. Like if an athlete has a sex scandal or is involved with drugs. People with have a negative impression of that athlete. Athletes are suppose to be role models. If they do not want that responsibility then I think they should not be in the public eye. If Tiger Woods wants to cheat on his wife with 10000 women then he should get got. No one wants to look up to that guy with secrets like that.
This link is an article debating if athletes are good role models anymore.

I think athletes need to put the game first. They loved the game first that is why they are professionals at it. The fame and riches game later. If an athlete gets to caught up in the "limelight" then they might lose their love for the game along the way. It has happened to many of athletes before and will sure happen to many in the future.

One word...Youtube!!!!

Youtube is one the most visited sites on the entire internet. People from all over world are on there and people all over the world can watch videos from a music video to court room fights.
Music artist today have to do everything he/she can to market themselves. Artist are using everything internet site like twitter, facebook, youtube. Anything that will help them get their name out there.

Youtube is a great way to market someone. The first reason why is because it is free. No one has to pay to put a video on there. Then if someone watches it and likes then they will tell their friends and then it is like a chain where people just start watching it. Then maybe a famous person sees that video and might want to sign that artist.

Many of artist are using youtube.com to try and become famous. The following link is an article about some people who have become famous from youtube. http://www.pluginhq.com/youtube-celebrities/

I think youtube is great. I use youtube with my 2 best friends. Yes we make our own videos for fun because we do not have live, but if we became famous from youtube that would be amazing. We only get around 600 views per video but one day one video might be the one to discover us. Check us out at youtube.com/meefmedia
I just think artist have to do everything in today'y market. It is a real competitive world out there in showbiz and every little thing counts when trying to be discovered.

News commentators have really changed since over the years. Instead of giving the viewer the news, commentators are putting their opinions behind the news.

Two main-stream commentators that are doing this are Bill O'Reilly (pictured to the left) and Larry King.

Bill O'Reilly is the host of the show "the O'Reilly Factor". It airs on fox news. Fox news is said to fair but everyone knows that they favor republicans. Bill O'Reilly just adds fuel to the fire. A lot more fuel. He is a republican who just bashes everything that the democrats say and do. He really was critical to Obama during the 2008 elections. The guest O'Reilly has on his show are usually other host of shows or political peopl
e that can fight over issues that really do not matter. Why people watch
this crap I don't know. It isn't news it is grown men fighting like little girls about big men stuff. If you real news you are better off going out yourself and finding it.

Another commentator on tv is the legendary Larry King. The man who was around probably when Jesus was born. Anyway, Larry King Live is the most watched showed on CNN. King interviews people from athletes, politicians, celebrities. Anyone who is famous might be on Larry King. I actually think the show is pretty cool. Larry King has an unique way of conducting interviews that makes the listener feel like that the interviewee is in the same room as them. I think if I had to watch one of these commentators everyday I would probably Larry King.

Overall, news stations are losing their main point. That is news!!!!! Why can't people just get the news and not have someones opinion behind it.

The following just shows how much real news CNN shows in an hour. http://tvnewslies.org/html/cnn___contains_no_news.html

We do not need anymore TV news commentators!!!!

Reality TV SUCKS!

I am the kind of person who could care less about what is on MTV. Ever since the station has gone away from their main adjective (playing music videos) I have not be a fan of the station.

The shows that are on MTV are just ridiculous. The one show "Jersey Shore" is just about low life people who are just trying to get their next fix on steroids or get their next shot at the club. The men on the show are around the age of 30 and should have families of their own by now but no they're too immature for any of that. Instead of having to feed a kid they would so much rather do steroids and hit on girls who are not even the legal age yet. I guess I am weird though because this is what is selling and people are watching it.

Reality TV is affecting the way young people think and more importantly it is affecting the way they act.

The rate of teen pregnancy is going up and reality TV might be a cause of that. When TV shows are about teens that are pregnant that definitely sends out the wrong messages. A girl might see the show and be like well I can get on TV if I become pregnant.

The following link is about if reality TV shows are affecting TV pregnancy. http://juststopscreaming.com/2010/02/is-mtv-making-teen-pregnancy-and-motherhood-cool

Young girls are watching these girls on these shows and see them wearing really trashy clothes, and are all over every guy they can find. Is that what I want my daughter to be like? NO! These girls on these shows are not even that hott not to mention that their IQ is probably negative 2. When a girl's nickname is "Snookie", I am sorry but I have intentions on talking to you. I want a girl that is real and not fake like the ones on TV. Girls should not be watching these shows and it is sad that our society is the way that it is. We need to control what comes on television a little better but who are we to say what goes; if it sell then hey hell with it.

Local Newspapers

The Dundalk Eagle is a unique newspaper. The paper is to target the community as a whole. This makes the reader feel more involved and interested in the stories the paper offers. The stories that are being written are about local events and news that are happening that people might want to know about.

With the rate of papers declining this fast, papers need to find ways to keep their readers.

With the sales of newspapers declining, people want something that they feel apart of. That is why I think local papers are cool, and needed.

The Dundalk Eagle's audience ranges from kids all the way to the elderly. Every one who reads the “Eagle” can find something that they can enjoy. If it is from the Police Beat or High School Sports, the Dundalk Eagle has something to offer for every individual in the community.

I think the writers do not show so much bias in their writing. I believe they write about the news and do not show much opinion at all. I think they are just giving the readers what happened and it is up to the reader to make his/her own opinion.

The paper does a great job getting the issues out there. They are only a weekly paper. I think this is a good thing because the demand for it stays high. The cost is cheap as well, only 25 cents an issue. I believe that local newspapers will survive longer then more global newspapers. The Eagle is also on the web. They are adapting to the technological world so that people can read them on the Internet.

The following is the Dundalk Eagle’s Internet site. http://dundalkeagle.com/

The Dundalk Eagle offers something that most other newspapers cannot and that is making the reader feel connected. That is why I believe the Dundalk Eagle will be around for a while.

The Checkout Counter

A person can really catch up with society just by going to the grocery store. When I am checking out at the register I find myself looking at all the magazines and their covers. The pictures and headlines that these magazines have can really brainwash people who read them.

The images, the magazines have, are usually of really beautiful women and men. These models all have nice bodies. To a teenage girl this might mean a lot. She may believe that the only way for a boy to like her is to look like these models. She may become anorexic so that she can become “skinny.”

The link below is an article about if magazines are giving teenage girls the wrong messages. http://www.womensenews.org/story/commentary/031029/teen-magazines-send-girls-all-the-wrong-messages

Most of the images on magazines are not realistic. They are usually people in “paradise.” It just seems like every picture is on a beach or in Hollywood. This just makes the reader just admire the people in the image.

The headlines are most likely to be negative. The headlines I see the most are “They’re splitting,” or “He Cheated,” just things that people should not indulge themselves everyday with. Headlines are going to get a person to read the magazine or not so the magazine editors are definitely going to put what they believe is going to sell. The headlines are kind of fearful. They make the reader

I do not believe that diversity is represented in magazines very well. If a person is a celebrity and he/she has done something different then they are most likely going to be in the magazines.

The advertising the magazines offer are usually related to what kind of magazine it is. If the magazine is for women then there is most likely going to be advertisements about makeup and cosmetics. If the magazine is for men then the advertisements inside are usually muscle enhancement or weight lifting machines. When people read these magazines they want to become more like the people they are seeing and they want ways to become like them. That is why the advertising is targeted to the specific group of people.

I really try to find magazines that I can hold accountable and creditable. I enjoy “People’s Magazine, Sports Illustrated.” To me, these two magazines give me, the reader, what I want to know and see. There are some things that I disagree with sometimes but there is nothing I can do it about it.

I just think magazines are scrambling to keep there sales up. The magazines are willing to do pretty much anything they need to get people to read their magazine.

This link is about how the magazine sales are declining. This is resulting magazines to come up with unique ways to get people to buy their magazine. Big time celebrities with big news seems to be the way to sell a magazine even if it is not true. http://www.nytimes.com/2008/08/12/business/media/12magazine.html
